Biography of Georges Charpak
Georges Charpak was a Polish-French physicist and the winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1992.
He was born in the Polish village of Dąbrowica (now Dubrovytsia, Ukraine) into a Polish-Jewish family, and his father's name was Jézi Harpak.

Resistance during World War II
During World War II, Charpak participated in the Resistance Movement and in 1943, he was imprisoned by the Vichy regime authorities.
In 1944, he was deported to the Nazi concentration camp of Dachau, where he remained until his liberation in 1945.
