Hiromu arakawa on roy and risa

Riza Hawkeye/Roy Mustang (or RoyAi) is a hetship in the Fullmetal Alchemist series written by Hiromu Arakawa. The ship name RoyAi is possibly a portmanteau playing with Roy's name and the sound "ai" as in "eye" in Hawkeye's.

"Ai" also means love in Japanese.

Canon

Roy Mustang and Riza Hawkeye met as teenagers when Roy apprenticed with Riza's father to study alchemy. When Master Hawkeye died, Riza followed Roy into the military. They met again in the closing days of the Ishvalan Genocide, and Riza vowed to follow Roy in working to rebuild the country and repay for their crimes in Ishval.

Throughout the main timeline of the story, Riza serves as Roy's adjutant in the military. In the manga and Brotherhood anime, it is implied that she continues to serve as his aid when he becomes leader of the country. In the old anime, they end up working in separate branches of the military after Roy assassinates Fuhrer Bradley.
